BP1_Google Reader

Hello,

Welcome to my blog. This is definitely and experience for me. I have never had a blog or been part of a blog. I began my first blog for this action research but it seemed a lot simpler than what I am doing now. I believe this is going to be an amazing journey that I hope to gain a lot from. I name my blog curiosity is fundamental because I rely on the curiosity of my students to guide me as a teacher.

Google has always been my number 1 search engine. Apparently I must be living under a rock because I never knew about all the amazing Google gadgets. As soon as I joined the EMDT program at Full Sail I was introduced to iGoogle, which I love. Its’ collaborative features make it an amazing tool. Now I am introduced to Google reader, which allows me to be up-to-date with information I am constantly searching. Google is awesome.

This is the first time I looked for RSS feeds so please be gentle as you view my first blog on the first couple of RSS feeds I have found useful. The first RSS feed I found was in the NY Times science section. This section is divided into several other sections. One of my goals this year is to improve my students’ literacy skills. This RSS feed can definitely help me relate my content area as well as literacy in the classroom.

When I began this program I felt like I was given little gifts as I progressed with my courses. One of the gifts I received was introduction to the edutopia website. This website is amazing for educators. It links educator from all over the world. One of the tools I love from edutopia is their wide range of resources they provide for educators. One of my greatest resources in NYC is the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH). I have been taking my students to this museum since I began my teaching career. I couldn’t help but to join their RSS feed. The scientists at AMNH are always looking for advances in science.

My school uses software an online portal known as skedula to monitor the progress of our students. This tool enables teachers to track their students’ progress by using it as a gradebook, referral monitor for behavior, and to access important student information. This program also allows students to become more accountable for their grades because they are able to monitor their progress in their classes as their teachers input assignments and grades. This program also acts as a communication tool for parents, teachers, and students.

Another tool I found while researching for one of my courses during my EMDT degree was free technology for teacher. This website helped me understand iGoogle and the tools it has when I began to use. They constantly update the tools available for teachers.
